Overview

One of the outstanding characteristics of Schechter Manhattan is the commitment and investment of the parents. The mission of the Parents’ Association is to support the school through community building, fundraising, and parent education. Examples of activities that support this mission include: coordinating the school wide welcoming picnic, collaborating with the Board of Trustees on the Schechter Manhattan Annual Benefit Dinner, sponsoring benefit concerts, arranging fundraisers for the school, acknowledging life cycle events for the entire Schechter Manhattan community, linking what our children are learning in the classroom to our own education, providing pizza for the children in honor of Rosh Hodesh (the new Hebrew month), Mishloach Manot (Purim Baskets) and organizing a school-wide Shabbaton.

The Executive Committee is charged with guiding the Parents' Association:

2007-2009
President (Charles Spielholz): Responsible for overseeing the PA, presides over monthly meetings, and represents the parents on the Schechter Manhattan Board of Trustees in an ex officio capacity.

Vice Presidents (Galia Kaufman-Lavi and Linda Roberts): The primary liaisons between the PA Executive Committee and the program committee chairs. Coordinate all aspects of communication between the parents and the PA, which include a listserv, website, flyers and Daf Kesher column.

Secretary (Helene Bass-Wichelhaus): Records minutes for all PA meetings. Is the point person for all life cycle events and for the hospitality committee.

Treasurer (Judith Stern): Accounts for funds raised and expended by PA.
