Class Parent Responsibilities
Assisting Teachers--you may be asked to help with the following:
- Coordinate parent/teacher conferences
- Coordinate field trip volunteers
- Other calls as occasionally needed by teachers Classroom Community
- Set up a phone chain for your class in case of snow days or other such instances
- Notify Helene Bass-Wichelhaus, Parents' Association Secretary, (e-mail: Wichelhaus@rcn.com, phone: (212) 737-7844) of life cycle events affecting families, teachers or administrators. Such events include births, marriages, deaths, (including grandparents), hospitalizations or extended illnesses. Also, class parents may be asked to help coordinate parents when families are in need, such as when sitting shiva, especially helping Helene coordinate a shiva meal sponsored by the Parents' Association.
- Presentations to accompany teachers' gifts and other teacher appreciation activities.
- Encourage attendance at Kabbalat Shabbat on Fridays or Tefilot on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Encourage a family to host the class "cocktail party" if no one has already volunteered via the Parents' Assocation Help Wanted Ads.
- Maintain e-mail list for class families and communicate this information to Charlie Spielholz, Parents' Association President. (e-mail: cssrs@earthlink.net).
- Encourage parents to send teachers a note when something is going well, with a copy to Dr. Lorch – not just when things are problematic. Of course we expect that this will be a two-way street. School Community
- Encouragement to fellow families regarding Parents' Association events and school-wide programs. This may involve making phone calls and/or sending e-mail reminders, disseminating information and helping to obtain volunteers.
- You are encouraged to attend Wednesday Parents' Association meetings to help make sure your class is represented and stays in the loop.
