Frequently Asked Questions

The Annual Benefit Dinner is our single biggest fundraiser of the year. It's a celebration of the entire Schechter Manhattan community, featuring graduating eighth graders, organized by our talented parents and staff, and honoring members of the Board of Trustees and other community leaders who have made Schechter Manhattan the success it is today.

Honoring

Francine and Dr. Samuel Klagsbrun

Vision in Leadership Award

Dr. Jane Davidson and Rabbi Larry Sebert

Vision in Jewish Education Award

March 24, 2010 was a big day for Jewish education. Leaders across Manhattan’s Jewish community gathered in support of Schechter Manhattan – its flagship Conservative Jewish day school. The evening celebrated “Building for the Future” as Schechter Manhattan prepares to open its new home later this year, paid tribute to teacher Nicole Levy for Ten Years of Service, and was a moving tribute to our honorees.

Francine and Dr. Samuel Klagsbrun received the Vision in Leadership Award. Sam has been a powerful presence and community advocate each day as a member of the school’s Board of Trustees since the school’s opening in 1996. Francine has put her tremendous creativity as an author and a public intellectual to raise the profile of both Schechter Manhattan and Jewish Education in our community. They have committed their personal and professional lives to promoting Jewish life through education. Their leadership to our community is exemplary.

Dr. Jane Davidson and Rabbi Larry Sebert received the Vision in Jewish Education Award. Larry has served on the school’s board since before the school’s founding, when he served on the steering committee that became the school’s board. As Rabbi of the Town and Village Synagogue, Larry has chaired the school’s Rabbinic Advisory Committee for the past 15 years, providing leadership and example in building a strong relationship between Conservative synagogues and their school. Jane is the immediate past chair of the school’s Education Committee. She also has deep roots in the Ramah camps that have worked together with our day schools and supplementary schools to make Jewish education a year-round and deeply meaningful experience for so many of our children. We are thrilled to honor Jane and Larry for their contributions to Jewish education in Manhattan and beyond.

The evening featured a raffle, silent auction, and journal, all of which raised more than $390,000. You can still contribute to the dinner online at http://benefit.schechtermanhattan.org.
