Campaign for the Future - Our new campus at 805 Columbus Avenue

Schechter Manhattan will have its very own brand new campus at 805 Columbus Avenue (on the south-east corner of 100th street and Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side). This very exciting development is many years in the making, and signifies a true coming of age for Schechter Manhattan.

This new campus will:

• enable us to open our very own preschool for the first time
• expand to have all grades K-5 with two classes per grade
• attract many new families and students because of our new facility
• enable grades 2-5 to spread out and use the newly renovated SAJ campus better
• provide brand-new state of the art facilities for our preschool, kindergarten, first grade and middle school
• communicate our presence, stability and bright future to the Manhattan Jewish community.

Schechter Manhattan has signed a long-term lease for this space in the Columbus Village Development that can be under our control for the next 10-30 years, with options along the way. While this project does not fulfill our ultimate goal of having our whole school in one building that we own, it represents a fiscally responsible, long-term, strategic move that will take Schechter Manhattan into a necessary middle stage that will enable the growth we need, the facilities we need, and a great chance to move towards our dream at the right time.

This project will cost $8.5 million:

$2.5 million in construction and furnishing, and $6 million in a capital endowment, the interest from which will pay the additional rent and operating costs for the campus above what the school's strategic budget provides. This will create a strong capital pool for our future capital projects, and will allow our annual fundraising goals to stay at reasonable and healthy levels over the life of the project.
