Letter from Head of School

Ben Mann and members of Kitah Bet at the NY Hall of Science in Queens.

Welcome to Schechter Manhattan!

I am thrilled and thankful to be leading this exciting and innovative community. I am inspired by our mission to ignite in our students a passion for learning and to cultivate their Jewish identities. In my years at Schechter Manhattan I have been privileged to see the positive impact that the combination of student centered, active learning with joyous and rigorous Jewish living and learning has on our students. I have seen that Schechter Manhattan graduates are confident and go forth to meet the intellectual, social, and moral challenges that lie ahead, poised not only to do well in life, but also to do good in the world. The positive impact that Schechter Manhattan graduates have and will have on the Jewish people and the world at large is an enduring and meaningful outcome of our school’s mission, our faculty’s hard work and care, and our parents’ commitment to giving their children the best Jewish education available.

I believe that Schechter Manhattan is uniquely positioned to prepare graduates to become leaders in the 21st century. Through our student centered and active learning approach our students hone essential skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

These are the very skills needed for success in the digital age. Schechter Manhattan also represents an approach to Jewish living and learning that is grounded in Jewish heritage and tradition, while at the same time being integrated within our modern lives and world. Students at Schechter Manhattan understand that Jewish learning has wisdom that applies to their lives and that Jewish practice is a source of meaning.

I hope the information on our website gives you a taste of the Schechter Manhattan community. It is a community filled with rigorous learning, rich communal and collaborative experiences as well as wonderful ruach, school spirit. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
