Counseling & Learning Resources
Our resource staff help to facilitate the academic, social, and emotional development of each student at Solomon Schechter. Our team of learning specialists and psychologists is integrated into the school community, collaborating with teachers, parents, and administration in order to:
- Assess and identify children who may benefit from extra support
- Create an atmosphere of openness where children and parents feel comfortable addressing their various learning and psychological needs
- Design classroom-based workshops and interventions
- Act as a resource to the entire school community including parents, teachers, and administration
- Consider various psychological or learning-based issues that may be of help to the broader school community
In that spirit, learning resource staff may informally join students for lunch or gym in addition to providing remediation and support. To help facilitate our school’s sense of warmth and tolerance, our staff addresses an array of concerns ranging from social conflicts to coping with the academic demands of third grade. In addition, periodic workshops are scheduled with parents to discuss common concerns such as arguing over homework, fostering independence, and coping with the challenges of impending adolescence.
